“Ignore people who tell you that it’s the quality of your followers not the quantity.”
Really? If I have 1000 followers who would otherwise have absolutely no interest in what it is that I am selling, am I really broadcasting to anyone worth hearing my message? After all, if I’m selling, say, SQL servers, and I went on a national speaking tour of say, every elementary school in the Southwest, I could spread my word to a captive audience of thousands of people… but probably not a lot who are looking for a database solution.
Ignore me if you must, but quality of followers is an issue.

You have a valid point and I agree. But think about it – people will follow you only if there is some common interest – professional, hobbies, personal, etc. So I think the encapsulated message in above statement is to work hard to increase your followers. By repeated contact you will become friends and your friends will help you propagate your mesage.
This post has finally has explained Twitter in a way that B2B marketers can use. There are some great tools and advice provided.
This is clearly the wave of the future for sharing information and building communities along with other social media tools. The challenge is to create the audience to reach the tipping point in the market you are targeting. Some markets are ready. Many, mine included, are ripe to have a first adopter take off with it.
This was very, very helpful as I was being real selecetive of my followers. Question: What if I have several businesses I want to promote?
Do I set up several twitter accounts? Will twitter allow several accounts with same email? I’m a heavy blackberry user and would like all to come to one email account.
Do I create different profiles for each and relate other business to it or keep it focused on that particular business?
I appreciate your imput!
